The 2016 Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association; Taste of the Caribbean Culinary competition held in Miami, team St. Lucia won one gold, one silver and one bronze medal.
The final results posted by the CHTA, St Lucia was one of four countries that won the Team Gold Medal for National team of the year. They joined the Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago and Puerto Rico on the gold medal podium.
Trinidad and Tobago is Taste of the Caribbean’s 2016 Caribbean National champion. Barbados won silver in that category.
St. Lucia’s Elijah Jules also won silver in the Chef of the Year category, with participants from Anguilla, Turks & Caicos, Curacao and Suriname.
Peter Lawrence of St. Lucia also won bronze in the Seafood competition together with the US Virgin Islands.
CHTA President Karolin Troubetzkoy has been speaking about the launch of a new body called the Caribbean Culinary Council. It is being set up to enhance collaboration between Caribbean chefs as well as international chefs with an interest in the region.
Troubetzkoy who is also Executive Director of Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain President in St. Lucia said the Caribbean Culinary Council will be charged with building on the success of the “Taste of the Caribbean” culinary showcase.
